Getting Along
Ghosts of the Revolution 101
This document describes how to: get along, get ahead and get kicked. This is what we expect from you and what you can expect from us.
HOWTO: Get Along in Ghosts of the Revolution (GotR)
Learn and live by The Pillars. We won't detail The Pillars here, so this is a summary.
Foundation: The only way to lead is by example.
0. Real Life Comes First - We all have lives too, so if you should be doing something else, go do it. We'll be here when you return.
1. The Website - Register, read, post. 'Nuff said. If you're reading this, you probably already have.
2. Voice Communication: We use Mumble to talk in games. Install and configure Mumble. This is a requirement. Ask for help with the set up if you need it. Communication is the difference between zerging and winning. We also use TeamSpeak 2 as a backup, so download that to have it ready.
3. Division Enrollment: For PlanetSide players, we expect you to join one of the divisions. You can move around until you find your home, that's normal. What we don't want are people who are in the outfit, but not really WITH the outfit.
4. Raid Attendance: The Thursday Raid is the only required event for PlanetSide. If you aren't going to be there, please let your officer know. If you have a time difference that prevents being online at 1930 Eastern, let us know.
Platinum Rule - We're all familiar with the Golden Rule; do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The problem with this rule is that it requires you to assume how they want to be treated. The next step up from this is: treat others as they wish to be treated. Another way to say this is: don't be a dick.
Avoid Drama - If you see bad behavior, inform command and let them handle it. The fewer people involved the better.
Getting Ahead
HOWTO: Get Ahead
If you want a leadership position or to stand out from the crowd, here's how you do it.
Contribute on the Website - Use your skills and interests to contribute to the website. If you like to write, write a story. If you are a Photoshop ninja, make signatures and wall papers. If you have ideas for strategy and tactics, write an article. Post in the threads; give a shout out in the ShoutBox.
Embody the Pillars - Per the Foundation, you must exemplify the Pillars and lead by example. You cannot ask something of your troops that you are not doing. Be on Mumble, participate in the website, attend the raids, be in a division and help where you can.
Step Up! - All it really takes to be a lead is to LEAD. Step up when command asks for someone to lead your squad. The best time to make a name for yourself is on non-raid nights.
Represent Us Well - Be known as a good player within the empire and to our opponents. We don't want to be the outfit that promoted that jerk no one likes.
There are other documents detailing what we expect from leaders in the Operations Manual. On that note....
RtFM - Read the manuals. Write manuals.
Getting Kicked
HOWTO: Get Kicked
The following behaviors will lead to removal from the outfit. We hate kicking people, so please take these rules to heart.
Hacking - Don't do it. Even out of curiosity, just don't. Our reputation is important to us. Your actions reflect on us. Avoid using exploits as well. If you are unsure about something being a hack or exploit, trust your gut that it is, then ask an officer.
Team Killing - Don't kill members of your faction/empire, outfit, platoon or squad. No matter how annoying they are, don't do it even if they've TKed you. We live by our rules, not theirs. The only exceptions to this are dueling (all participants are fighting voluntarily) and if someone asks you do it. If someone is stuck or wants a quick trip to the spawn room and they ASK for it, go ahead.
Rudeness - We have removed players for habitually being rude. We're here to have fun, not to take abuse. A bit of smack talk is fine, but if the other person isn't laughing, they probably aren't enjoying it. No, they don't need to grow a thicker skin; YOU need to be mindful of how you treat others. People have different limits and ideas of what is funny. Keep racist/sexist/homophobic/xenophobic and other meanness to yourself. Using gay and retarded as pejoratives (insults) is not as funny as you think. Treat others as THEY wish to be treated. We are, after all, on the same side and here for the same reason. That said, you also represent us when you deal with opponents. They play to have fun, not to be insulted and berated.
Drama - Engaging in a flame war on the official forum, our forum or in /b, /c or whatever is bad publicity. Stay out of it. Let command deal with it or use /ignore add $playerName. This is doubly important for officers or anyone who wants to be an officer.
Spying - Do not relay intel from one empire to another. Even if it would benefit us. It's bad form.

The Pillars
The Pillars
Preface:
The Pillars are the most fundamental rules of how the outfit operates. They've served us well over the course of almost a decade. Live by them and you'll thrive. Break them and you may be removed from the outfit.
If you have questions about The Pillars it is up to you to ask. We can't answer questions you've kept secret. Start a thread, send a PM, ask in the ShoutBox, send a tell/whisper. Heck, you can even Tweet your questions.
The Foundation: Lead by Example (for Officers)
The officers are the foundation of the outfit upon which the pillars rest. If the foundation is flawed the Pillars will be crooked and the building will collapse. We cannot expect our troops to do anything we aren't already doing. We must be examples of what the outfit should be. We must treat our troops with respect, and earn their respect.
Pillar 0: Real Life Comes First
Life > Games. If you'd rather be doing something else, go do that. If your mind is on finances, getting laid, homework or some other game, go deal with that. If your dog is eating the couch or you have spouse aggro, go deal with that. If your choosing between a night out with friends or playing, go have a drink and raise a glass for us. If your head isn't in the game you'll be a less effective player. You'll be annoyed with your performance and so will everyone else. You'll resent the game and the outfit for keeping you from having some other kind of fun or dealing with your real life responsibilities. No outfit officer or member will give you grief for putting your life first. Take a night off. We are all friends here and friends support each other. There is no such thing as spare time. Every minute you spend is gone forever. Spend it wisely. We'll be here when you get back!
Pillar 1: The Forum
Our forum is the lifeblood of our outfit. It is how we plan, inform, and organize. It's also fun. We expect you to take part in the forum if for nothing more than to stay informed of what is going on. Activity is also a consideration for advancement in rank within the outfit, if that is an avenue you wish to pursue.
Pillar 2: Voice Communication (Mumble)
You MUST have Mumble installed on your system to be a member. There are those here that will help with any problems you may have, so technical difficulties are not a consideration. A small few special exceptions can be made, ask an officer if you have any doubts. You are not required to have a mic, but Mumble must be running for you to properly follow your orders from your commanding officers - having a mic is definitely encouraged. Additionally, if you ever wish to advance into the officer ranks, you must have a mic. You must be on Mumble to hold a Squad Leader position as well.
Pillar 3: Respect and Sportmanship
We are judged by our actions more than our words. We have a good reputation in the games we play. Your behavior reflects on all of us.
- We do not hack, cheat or exploit, nor tolerate those who do. If you think something might be an exploit or hack, don't use it, talk to an officer. Don't relay information from opponents.
- Treat others the way they wish to be treated. We're all here to have fun. If your idea of fun is trolling, tea bagging and offensive remarks you will find yourself in trouble. We have removed members for being jerks.
- Respect the Chain of Command. If you have a problem with something an officer is asking you do to, try to resolve it privately. Openly questioning officers undermines their authority. If there is a persistent problem, take it to another officer.
- Abide by game specific rules. Each game will have its own set of additional rules. Learn 'em, live 'em. Click on the other tabs of this article to see these rules.
Pillar 4: Participation
Each game we play has a schedule for raids and other events. If you want to be considered part of the PlanetSide outfit, for instance, we expect you to attend our Thursday night raid. These events are the purpose of the outfit: to get together and kick ass. However, real life comes first. If you can't make it, please let someone know. We won't kick you for missing raids. We might kick you if it seems you aren't really a member of the outfit.
PlanetSide
PlanetSide Specific Pillars
The Foundation: Lead by Example (for Officers)
The Foundation is particularly important in PlanetSide. The need for coordination and focus is critical to our success on the field. We expect all officers to embody The Pillars at all times.
Pillar 0: Real Life Comes First
The function of the indvidual within the team is important in PlanetSide. If you're head isn't in the game you can cause problems for others. If you want to take a night off, or an extended break from the game, please do so. Playing when you're feeling burn out will lead you to resent the game even more. We'd rather have you take a break from the game than learn to hate it. We ask that you let us know that you'll be on leave for a given Thursday night raid. Knowing who will be online and how many troops is part of our planning. Remember, you're not asking us for permission. Just letting us know.
Pillar 1: The Forum
Particapating in the forum is a good way to learn new tactics, discuss strategies and share stories. Share your ideas. Offer constructive feedback to others.
Pillar 2: Voice Communication (Mumble)
During scheduled events, like the raid, practice nights and the SFR, being on Mumble is required. You don't have to talk, but we expect you to listen. Communication is what makes us more than the zerg. It's less important during the off times (between events). If you're doing the solo thing, it's OK to not be in Mumble. You might want to log in anyway so you can hear the smack talk and jokes. If you want a leadership role having a mic is required. If you are a squad leader you must have a mic.
Pillar 3: Respect and Sportmanship
We are what we do. We treat all players with respect, even our opponents. We earn the respect of other outfits and empires by showing good sportsmanship.
- We do not hack, cheat or exploit, nor tolerate those who do. 'Nuff said.
- Treat others the way they wish to be treated. Keep sexism, racism and all those -isms to yourself. We're here to have fun, not to take verbal abuse.
- Respect the Chain of Command. This is more important in PlanetSide than most of our other games. It takes a measure of discipline to coordinate and control 30 to 100 players at once.
- Abide by game specific rules. PlanetSide's complex and military like nature requires a few more rules than other games. Specifically, we do not Team Kill. If you're dueling or someone asks you to kill them so they can respawn elsewhere, fine. If someone of our empire is harassing you or blocking something, or otherwise jeopordizing empire/outfit operations, ask your officers before TKing.
Pillar 4: Participation
For PlanetSide, we expect you to be in game on Thursday nights, 730 PM to 10 PM Eastern. Our ability to win depends on how many troops we have. We need your certifications to give us flexibility. Habitually missing raid night is cause for dismissal. If you live in a time zone that makes those hours hard for you, or if you're working the nightshift, let us know. Real life always comes first. We won't be mad at you for being on leave. We might be annoyed if you never show up and never tell us why or when you might return.
Being part of a organized and large team is the purpose for the existence of the outfit. It's the purpose of joining the outfit.
All members will join a division. You can change divisions by making a transfer request to your current and future commanding officers. We require this because we don't want you to be standing around Sanctuary wondering what to do or what's going on. We also like to know the relative troop strength of each unit. If you are new to the outfit you may transfer relatively freely as you find your niche. The special operations division (Daemon Legion) units require approval to join. This usually involves a tryout period.
Old Republic
SWtOR Specific Pillars
The Foundation: Lead by Example (for Officers)
The officers are the foundation of the outfit upon which the pillars rest. If the foundation is flawed the Pillars will be crooked and the building will collapse. We cannot expect our troops to do anything we aren't already doing. We must be examples of what the outfit should be. We must treat our troops with respect, and earn their respect.
Pillar 0: Real Life Comes First
Life > Games. The guild officers will never begrudge you taking a night off. As an RPG, SWtOR places less emphasis on having large numbers of players online at the same time. So if you have something else on your mind or somewhere else to be, go for it.
Pillar 1: The Forum
Our forum is the lifeblood of our guild. There we discuss crafting, achievements, plans for future events and get to know each other. If you have a question or want some help in the game, post on the forum. We don't expect you to reply to every thread but we do expect you to stay informed as to what we are doing. The forum is the best way to do that. It's also a way to shine if you are looking for promotion within the guild or the outfit as a whole.
Pillar 2: Voice Communication (Mumble)
You MUST have Mumble installed on your system to be a member. There are those here that will help with any problems you may have, so technical difficulties are not a consideration. A small few special exceptions can be made, ask an officer if you have any doubts. You are not required to have a mic, but mumble must be running for you to properly follow your orders from your commanding officers. Additionally, if you ever wish to advance into the Officer ranks, you must have a mic. You must be on mumble to hold a party leadership position as well.
There are additional rules for SWtOR specified in other documents **Link**
Pillar 4: Participation
Raiding is never mandatory and you are not required to participate in any of them to be a part of the guild. If you do sign up for a raid, we will expect you to show up on time. Please avoid signing up if you are not committed to attending. We understand that real-life happens, and sometimes you won’t be able to show up for a raid you wanted to go to. That’s fine. If at all possible, please send an in-game mail or Private Message on the website, to the raid leader alerting them that you won’t be able to make it. If you are not online within 15 minutes before the scheduled raid start time, you may lose your spot.
If you are in the guild, be in the guild.
Minecraft
Minecraft Specific Pillars
-Ask to be whitelisted for server access by posting in the signup thread.
-Don't Team Kill. Friendly fire is enabled on the server, so be careful where you swing your pick/sword/block of wool. This is different than Planetside in that you can actually lose some very valuable things if you die. So don't do it.
-Don't grief other players' buildings. They have the right to build anything they want, so do you (other than things blatantly racist or offensive, that we'll have to put a lid on).
-Respect other players' space. This means, if someone's built a nice castle and likes the view, it's only fair that you not build a huge railway zigzagging across the castle, or a huge floating castle right beside theirs if they ask you politely not to.
-IMPORTANT: Feel free to booby trap anything you build, but you MUST post a notification via a wooden sign that is clearly visible. You don't have to say "This building is trapped with a TNT detonator located on the third block to the left" but it can be as simple as "Do Not Enter". If they read the sign which tells them not to enter, and they enter anyway resulting in their death, it's not your fault.
-Do not booby trap other players' buildings unless they ask you to.
-Do not move any notification signs. Obviously.
-Do not steal any other players' resources. Some chests will be locked, marked private or personal, while others are marked for communal use. Feel free to take anything you want out of the communal chests but don't be greedy, we're an outfit and a team here and no one likes a resource hog.
Violations of any of these rules could result in your IP being temporarily or permanently banned from the server we're currently playing on. Most likely your position as a GOTR outfit member will not be in jeopardy, but that can always change. In short, don't be a smacktard. If you're a new player, please ask lots of questions, we would rather take a few seconds to explain something to you than have you explode.
